Results of the County Commissioner Race - May
2nd Primary
Of the ten Republican candidates, only one, Allan Baucom
received enough votes to secure one of the three commissioner seats.
This sets the stage for a four-way, May 30th run-off for the
remaining two seats. The four candidates with the next highest
vote counts were:
-
Lanny
Openshaw, 2480
Dan's #1 Pick
-
Parker
Mills, 2420
-
Richard
Stone, 2380
-
Stony
Rushing, 2279
Once again, we must "Get out the Vote".

websites. PLEASE make plans to vote in the run-off.

| The Tuesday, May 2nd, 2006 Primary is
important for our county. Since all ten (10) of the Commissioner
candidates are Republicans, the three who come out of the
primary May 2nd will essentially be the winners in the November
election. Please see the candidate list below. |

Union County Board of Elections list of the candidates please visit
their website then click on "Candidate List" on the left. I have the following
Questions for our Commissioner Candidates:
- Do you accept money from special
interests? If yes, to what limits? Example: At a county
level race, I don't mind if you accept $100 from anyone (a special
interest or citizen, etc.) I believe accepting larger sums
from any special interest is not in the best interests
of the voters. I am looking for candidates who will clearly
state their position on this matter.
- Do you support the inclusion of
the full and complete minutes from Commissioner meetings on the
county's website for easy access by county citizens?
- Do you believe the county could
manage growth by way of the sewer permit issue process? Would
you support managing growth in this way?
- If an incumbent should lose in the
May 2nd primary then they would be out of the November election.
Therefore, there is the very real possibility of an incumbent
becoming a "lame-duck" official starting in May and running through
December. Before I would consider supporting any incumbent, I
want to see each incumbent pledge that they will not, as a
"lame-duck" official, advance or support any major contracts or
contract renewals that would be better left to the new, incoming
board of commissioners. That is, DO NOT do what the
lame-duck, outgoing Indian Trail council members did on 11/22/2005
granting, out of the blue, an employment contract with a 3year
buyout clause to the town manager barely three weeks before two
newly elected town council members would be sworn into office.
Lame-duck moves like this are not in the best interests of the
taxpayers.
